Our Settings

Our Early years team is led by Ms James who has 20 years teaching experience and is passionate about all things Early Years!

Our Early years consists of Pre-School, Foundation 1 and Foundation 2. All of our Early Years provision is led by a qualified teacher. All of our staff are enthusiastic and child centred.

We operate within a large, detached building which is light and spacious. We provide a modern, home from home feel with carpets throughout, soft furnishing, quiet spaces, individual outdoor provision and garden areas where children get involved in learning more about how food grows as well as take part in planting and picking food!

We are in a residential area with just a 5-minute walk from Upton train station and close to regular main bus routes. We have a wonderful large field to the rear of our school, which includes saplings for a forest school, an orchard and an outdoor classroom. Our out-door spaces lend itself to a multitude of activities that your child can partake in.

We are also in the fortunate position being surrounded by areas of natural beauty with ample day trip opportunities for children to visit the local beaches, farms and country parks. In addition to this, cultural capital is strengthened by our accessibility to National Museums, Art galleries, Observatories, and Theatres.

Our outdoor provision/space also has CCTV throughout providing parents with additional peace of mind

Early Years Curriculum

We want every child to thrive, achieve as highly as possible and be fully prepared for the next stage of their education.

Children will have the opportunity to learn through play during continuous provision and at times, within this play they will be challenged, questioned and extended by our expert staff. Our aim is for the children to embrace their learning in a fun, engaging and challenging environment.

Books take centre stage across our learning environment. Teachers carefully choose books that act as a ‘mirror’ and a ‘window’ for pupils. These books help pupils to reflect on their own lives as well as the lives of others.

We value the importance of our outdoor classroom and believe that it offers children the opportunity to develop their thinking and problem-solving skills through open ended activities and challenges. Adults provide high quality interactions; they are role models for learning.

Learning is a change to long-term memory. Our aims are to ensure that our children experience a wide breadth of study and will have, by the end of Early Years, changed their long-term memory to include all the important knowledge skills needed to continue with their earning journey into year 1 and beyond.  Curriculum drivers shape our curriculum breadth. They are derived from an exploration of the backgrounds of our children, our beliefs about high quality education, our school values and our school mission and vision statements. They are informed by our school SEF and school priorities. They are used to ensure we give our children appropriate and ambitious curriculum opportunities shaped around ‘Our World’, ‘Our Community’ and ‘Our Environment’. Cultural capital gives our children the vital background knowledge required to be informed and thoughtful members of our community.
